Alex joined Kennedys London office in 2003 and soon thereafter was asked to set up their first office in Continental Europe in Madrid in 2005. In 2010, the firm once again entrusted Alex with opening their first office in the Americas in Miami, whereupon Alex became a Foreign Legal Consultant with the Florida Bar and was instrumental to the establishment and growth in Latin America and the Caribbean. As Co-Founder, Alex runs the annual Miami 360 during Reinsurance Week and the claims and underwriting Forum every June, since 2015.

Over the last 26 years, Alex has advised a wide variety of corporate and commercial clients, particularly in connection with energy and mining projects, and assisting the setting up and running of operations in a variety of jurisdictions. He has been involved in catastrophe-induced matters related to construction, property, and political risk issues arising from severe weather conditions and from earthquakes, involving coverage issues of material damage, physical loss, DSU and BI.

Lorena joined Kennedys in 2012 after relocating to the United States, where she became a Foreign Legal Consultant (Not Admitted to Practice Law in Florida). Prior to joining Kennedys, Lorena worked for a boutique law firm in Venezuela handling corporate and commercial matters. Her experience is also focused on regulatory matters and providing legal assistance to international reinsurers and intermediaries to comply with the regulatory framework for insurance activity. Lorena is the coordinator for “The Guide of Insurance and Reinsurance Law”.

• Handled property damage and business interruption complex claims for international reinsurers, with Venezuelan government related entities involved, under insurance policies subject to Venezuelan law.
• Advising an international reinsurer in the handling of a claim related to bonds granted for a large construction project, including acting as monitoring counsel for litigation.
• Advising an international reinsurer in the handling of claims arising out of a large fire in a plant and civil actions arising from it.
• Handled property damage and business interruption complex claims for international reinsurers arising from a fire in a food production plant located in Venezuela subject to Venezuelan law.
• Advising international reinsurers in the handling of a claim under a Terminal/Operators and Port Authority Insurance policy.
• Coordinated global instructions addressing regulatory queries from reinsurers with international operations.
• Advising international reinsurers in the process of introducing new insurance products for the Latin America market including feasibility, compliance and review of intermediation structures.
• Acting as a TPA for international reinsurers.
